Re: No Wireless linux mint
Thanks
Still confused as to how I complete the task listed below
Edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add the line:
blacklist ndiswrapper
Create or edit the file /etc/pm/config.d/modules and make sure the wireless modules (b43 and bcma) are blacklisted:
SUSPEND_MODULES="b43 bcma"
I managed ok with the terminal to install the other stuff.
Sorry but I am a newbie.

Re: No Wireless linux mint
Depends on what desktop you have, but basically you run the text editor with root permissions and add the line to the end of the file. Similarly for the other file. In a terminal you can just enter gksu gedit for gnome/cinnamon or gksu pluma for mate. Alternatively you can right mouse the file in the file browser and Open as root/administrator.mattarmstead wrote:Edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Re: No Wireless linux mint
Hi,
Thanks for all your help but I'm still stuck without wireless access.
I have tried all your suggestions and think I am doing something very wrong.
I have installed packages from software manager and I have tried to install drivers and edit the folders as suggested. No luck.
May buy a usb wireless dongle.
Thank you
Matthew

Re: No Wireless linux mint
Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers
Choose the Broadcom STA wireless driver
Activate
Sometimes the driver does not show up in the Hardware Drivers choices. In
this case, try reintalling the driver from the GUI or shell like this:
From the GUI:
Package Manager (System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager). Click the
Reload button in the upper left corner of Synaptic to refresh your index then
search for and reinstall the package named bcmwl-kernel-source.
From the shell:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source
In either GUI or text case, after reinstalling, reboot your machine.
Now go back to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers
and you should see the driver enabled and working.
tried the gui and shell methods and restarted. no luck

Re: No Wireless linux mint
Hi,
Managed to enable wireless with
Install b43-fwcutter
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
b43 module is blacklisted by default you need to comment out that line.
sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Put comment on line with following content
blacklist bcm43xx
To avoid whole system restart, just restart b43 and ssb module
sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb
sudo modprobe b43
but everytime I reboot I have to run the sudo modprobe commands in terminal.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Matthew

Re: No Wireless linux mint
Perform this command in a terminal:
add "b43" at the end of the file, mine looks like this:
Save changes and exit.
The wireless driver should load on reboot.
Code: Select all
sudo pluma /etc/modules
Code: Select all
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
lp
rtc
b43
The wireless driver should load on reboot.
Re: No Wireless linux mint
After dozens of different solutions, this one effectively worked like a charmFrom the shell:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source
Thank you very much.
