Mint 13 KDE won't connect to network

Post by Nymn » Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:18 pm

Anyone know why it won't connect to my home network? I enter in the SSID (SSID broadcast is off), the encryption type (WPA2) and the password and...nothing. I used the Cinnamon version and had no problem at all. Is there anything else I can do to get this working?

Check if http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=95939 helps. See: 1. Can't connect to hidden SSID

Just tried that, I get a "Interface doesn't support scanning" message.
I know the interface is up, it sees my neighbors network just fine. :|

I found another site that suggested that System Connection be checked off since it is by default in the Gnome network manager. Still didn't work!
Ugh! I really want to like this distro but this wireless issue is really pushing my buttons!

That's what I was saying in my last post. :P
After some messing about, apparently it is only password protected networks I can't connect to. I'm able to connect to visible networks that aren't password protected without a problem. *grump*

Hey. I was just making sure we were on the same page.

I don't have any hidden SSID's to connect to
But I can connect to WPA or Open networks no problem

Are you dealing with WPA or something else

I have WPA2 for encryption. It seems it's something to do with that, since I have no problem with open networks.

Are you letting kwallet manage the secrets?

Try deleting all connections
Add it back, (system)

I have 3 Mint 13 KDE installs and all work perfectly as do similar openSUSE KDE installs

I've deleted and re-added several times so far. I've never received any prompts regarding the kwallet, so I don't think I'm using it.

Try this:
Delete wireless connections
Then:
Try deleting the following hidden:
Folder
.kde/share/apps/kwallet/

File
.kde/share/config/kwalletrc

Then logout and back in
Make wireless

Agree to use kwallet
enter a master password for it
Allow always for network....

Then there is something wrong or you are not following me
The files are in your users /home/nymn/.
(where nymn is your user name)
When you open dolphin press Alt+.
Now you can see your hidden files, go to the folder .kde > and so on as I explained

Then either there is something wrong or you are operating your system in some unusual way... such as being logged in as root?

Well, it's not installed for one thing. It's booting off a USB stick. I don't want to switch over until I'm sure everything is working, though.

OK
I didn't notice, sorry.

You can forget trying to delete files then.
I don't have a hidden SSID and can't just test it ATM. But I'm not aware of any issues with it.
KDE network manager does behave quite differently though and folk do get confused by it.

This is not a reply to this post, but I couldn't figure out how to write a new post. I am a complete novice at this. This is my very first Linux experience. I installed a LinuxMint 12 to AMD's GA-990XFA-UD3. i also bought an ASUS USB-N66 wireless adapter. My computer wouldn't see it. It came with a CD for installation, but it wouldn't intall. I contacted ASUS support and downloaded the driver for the adapter, but it just wouldn't install. I borrowed a USB wireless adapter from a friend and it worked right away. I don't know what else to do. Any help will be highly appreciated. And would someone please tell me how to properly post a question on this forum. Thank you. Okechi.

I forgot to mention, actually. :|
I thought I would be able to delete files since it was from a USB and not a CD but apparently not. I could just do a full install but a little leery about it since the wireless is being funky.

Try from the Wireless subforum in Networking. Should be a New Topic button at the top.

Well, if that image is really of you or represents your personality in any way. You sure look ready enough to take anything on.
