Mint Wireless Drivers in Debian?

Post by xvedejas » Wed May 21, 2008 8:49 am

Mint works perfectly and out-of-the-box with my wireless card. I recently installed debian on my second hard disk, and, there are no drivers for my card (or so I assume because it doesn't detect it).

I want to know what I need to do to get my wireless working in debian as well as it is working in mint. I need the rt61 a.k.a. rt2561 drivers, and I need to know how to get them to work, and then how to connect to my network.

Thanks for any help!

If my memory serves me right you can install ndiswrapper in Debian (if it's not already there)

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Yes, but how do I install the native linux drivers? I don't know how to use ndiswrapper anyways.

I did find the drivers and a guide to install them, but when I type "make" into the terminal I get this error;
make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-486/build'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-486/build'
rt61.ko failed to build!
make: *** [module] Error 1
What does it mean? I've never installed something this way before.

Hahaha, pretty funny; I discovered a combination of the latest kernel and mintwifi (which is extremely easy to install in debian) will get my internet to work on any distro... Mint saves the day again!
