Setting up a network drive

Post by PiMinto »

I need to have a shared drive between an Xp machine and Maya via wifi, and have printers attached through the Xp machine. I got no idea how to do this, is it best to setup a network on the windows machine first and then attach Mint or vice versa?

I read through your post a couple of times and I think your use of the terms "network drive" and "setting up a network" are throwing me off. See if any of this answers your question:

If you want to create a share of a folder in Mint it's a lot like creating one in WinXP - Open Nemo > Right click a folder you own > Select "Sharing Options". For more information see the following:
Simple File Sharing in Mint: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=23169

If the WinXP machine cannot see the Mint machine or it's share then you might want to go through the checklist:
Samba Browsing Problems Checklist: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 46&start=0

If the Mint machine cannot see or access a WInXP share that you created then go through the checklist above and if that does not resolve the issue then post the output of this diagnostic command:

Code: Select all

smbtree
For accessing a WinXP attached shared printer then you might want to see if this gets you anywhere:

Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.
