Mint 15 - WPA2 Not Connecting on Intel Wireless

Post by takaratiki »

Fresh install of Mint 15 64bit on a Lenovo Z570. Previous install with KDE Mint 14 flawless (in the proces of reverting back). After installing 15, wireless will not connect to a WPA2 Enterprise 802.11g AP using the same configuration as worked in 14. Specific hang ups in syslog as follows:

Code: Select all

May 31 10:22:36 egilsholm NetworkManager[1104]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: associating -> associated

May 31 10:22:39 egilsholm wpa_supplicant[1221]: wlan0: Authentication with xxxxxxxxxxxx timed out.
And then it reasks for username/password and begins to try and authenticate again.
Adding the public root or the intermediate certificate to nm are of no use.
There seem to be a number of issues using iwlwifi and WPA2 Enterprise on other distros that resemble this, though the solutions offered (modprobe to remove 802.11n/turn off hardware crypto/bt_coex_active=n) have all failed.
Outputs to follow.

Seeing the same thing here. WPA2 Enterprise with cert authentication. When I create the key file with openssl I enter the private key password. It seems this is what it's getting stuck on as it keeps asking for this password when trying to authenticate to the wireless. I can log into our guest wireless and VPN in but that is kind of a pain. These settings worked with Ubuntu 11.04 which is what I was on before I hopped to Mint 15.

I'm having same problems here with WPA2 Enterprise + Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 card and Mint 15. Connection was stable with mint 14 but with the new release authentication fails from time to time and only way to fix this is to reboot and try again. I'm guessing that it has something to do with "per user" wifi passwords. Connection to non-enterprise WPA2 works well and I haven't had similar problems with it.

Other wireless related problem introduced with the mint 15 is wireless not waking up after turning it on and off again with airplane mode or with the wireless on off button.

Opened up a bug for this issue. If somebody wants to hop on there and confirm that might help push things along.

I'm having the same problem in my Thinkpad SL410 with WPA2 Enterprise + Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection after upgrading from LM13 to 15. When I tried connecting to my Android hotspot tethering, wifi works fine.

The strange thing is when I do

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
it returns

Code: Select all

"FATAL: Module iwlwifi is in use."
My /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf:

Code: Select all

# /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
# iwlwifi will dyamically load either iwldvm or iwlmvm depending on the
# microcode file installed on the system. When removing iwlwifi, first
# remove the iwl?vm module and then iwlwifi.
remove iwlwifi \
(/sbin/lsmod | grep -o -e ^iwlmvm -e ^iwldvm -e ^iwlwifi | xargs /sbin/rmmod) \
&& /sbin/modprobe -r mac80211

I am having the same issue on my Lenovo W510 WPA2 Enterprise. It asks repeatedly for a CA certificate but I have never had to use one in the past. I am upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 which worked.

Looks like it's a driver issue. Perhaps trying https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1110139 (last post on the thread)

Unfortunately the above solution seems to be hit and miss, as it failed for my card which is:

Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727] (rev 01)

I chime in here too, using my fresh Mint 15 on a refurnished LG X110.
Had also experienced unsuccessful wireless connect to WPA2 Enterprise, using EAP-PEAP and MSCHAPV2
(In my case, I have to use the MS Windows Login name for authentication).

I also found the circumvention here worked for me:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+b ... comments/3
except that I had to use the nano editor instead.

Hi,

I have some problem connect WiFi via my schools's WPA2 wireless service which uses EAP-PEAP and MSCHAPV2 without CA.

I installed Mint 15 XFCE 64-bit on HP Envy 15z-j000. I use NetworkManager to check my network status under Xmonad.

Code: Select all

nmcli dev list
The result shows that Xmonad cannot capture my WiFi device's iFace name (missing GENERAL.IP-IFACE). The GENERAL.IP-IFACE is supposed to be "wlan0" in my case. But if I log into XFCE session to connect WiFi first, the iFace will be captured by XFCE. I can connect to WiFi without problem. Does anyone know how to set up the iface device name? Thanks.
