[SOLVED] Intel Wireless card connectivity Issue - Mint 15

Post by Stretchkev1 »

Hi,

I recently did a clean install of Linux 15 Mint: Cinnamon, after rebooting I can't connect to my Wi-Fi network. My network pops up no problem, but after entering my password Mint thinks for a minute or two, but it fails to connect every time. t this point I don't know how to diagnosis the issue without being able to connect to the network. Any help would be appreciated.

So I have tried the following:

Code: Select all

echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
sudo modprobe -r iwldvm
sudo modprobe -rfv iwlwifi
sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi
Has stopped the endless thinking, but it not keeps asking for authentication without connecting. Any suggestions?

Try posting

Code: Select all

mintwifi
and

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
instead. Mint 15 sure has a lot of wireless bugs from rt2800pci to now iwlwifi. I am not sure what is up because I run Mint 14 with a

Code: Select all

Network: Card-1: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) driver: ath9k
IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filtered>
Wireless n chip instead with no problems with wpa-psk protected networks.

You might wnat to run rfkill list also in case wireless is turned off on the keyboard or bios or is softblocked.

Mine as a example

Code: Select all

 $ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
1: samsung-wlan: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

My bad: double post. So I guess I will put something useful in it.

"Soft blocked" means "blocked by software". A faulty driver or other kernel module can lead to connectivity loss. So at least we know now that your problem is not a hot key switch on keyboard or a
bios setting.

Code: Select all

sudo rfkill unblock all
Then try rfkill list again to see if that took.

Since the info in INXI helped me. I found this on the forum

http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=117773
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=114978&hilit=iwlwifi

Good luck with it and Happy Trails, Rok

Edit: you might need a reboot after running sudo rfkill unblock all. I am not sure though if a reboot is needed though.

Niether of those things worked. Still shows a soft block after trying the rfkill unblock and reboot. And I can't get very far with the modify command since it keeps giving me a fatal error:

Code: Select all

FATAL: Module iwlagn not found.

FATAL: Module iwlagn not found.
That is because iwlwifi took iwlagn place as the module for your chip. Scratches head.

Maybe better? Just wondering. Why can't you just roll back to a earlier kernel? Use the shift key on power up to bring up grub menu choices.

Edit: oops. I thought upgrade meant a kernel upgrade. I see this is a clean install.

Re: [SOLVED] Intel Wireless card connectivity Issue - Mint 1

Solved the problem with a file edit to the wifi configuration:

Command:

Code: Select all

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
Paste to file:

Code: Select all

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1 bt_coex_active=N
Save, close gedit, and reboot.

Thanks, I was having slow connectivity on a clean install of Linux Mint 15 MATE. I put in the options line in the .conf file and my speed is back to normal.

SOLUTION :

If you can connect to the internet with a hardline, or through an unsecured network then it is a software problem. If you are being asked for a the passkey repeatedly even after entering the correct one, it is again a software problem.

To check the block execute:

rfkill list

This command should show something like
0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
2: i2400m-usb:2-1.5:1.0: WiMAX
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no

The problem is being caused by a software error

Execute this in the terminal window to remove the softblocks:

rfkill unblock all

And there you have it. Your password should work now.
Locked

Return to “Networking”
