BCM4313 unable to connect to Internet

Post by mupfel » Thu Aug 01, 2013 12:53 pm

Hi guys,

I'm running Mint 15 Cinnamon 64bit on a Lenovo B590 which has a Broadcom BCM4313 wirelesscard. This device shows my home network but whenever I try to connect to it the computer tells me that I am offline now. Afterwards this particular network is gone from the list and seems to be out of reach.
Ethernet and WLAN-Stick both work without fail.

I know that this wirelesscard is very troublesome with Linux and I searched many posts for help but nothing is working so far. Maybe I am making some simple mistakes or maybe I am just stupid to not get this working. Afterall I had to reinstall Linux about four times... I hope you can help me with this because I am absolutely clueless what to do :?

The driver in the repo is broken so you'll want to go to http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php and download the version you need (64 bit I believe). The instructions are in the readme on that same page or just click here for the link http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt

I followed the instructions again but am not able to do the building.

Up until this point everything is going fine:

Code: Select all

~ $ ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build
arch drivers init kernel Module.symvers security usr
block firmware ipc lib net sound virt
crypto fs Kbuild Makefile samples tools
Documentation include Kconfig mm scripts ubuntu
And then...

Code: Select all

~/hybrid_wl $ tar xzf /home/hanna/Downloads/hybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz
tar (child): /home/mupfel/Downloads/hybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2

Code: Select all

Do I have to do something else or did I misread the instructions?

Alternatively you can also look at the below page and follow the instructions given for your chip set.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... er/bcm43xx

It still does not work.
I tried the STA driver and nothing changed. The brcmsmac can't be properly installed or does not work either and the chipset ID is not among those for Windows drivers so I can not use ndiswrapper. Do you know which Windows driver I need?
