Connection Issue 50/65% w/ Mint - 100% w/ Windows

I am running Maya 13.
My wifi adapter is an ALFA network AWUS03NEH.

The issue:
Connection is @ 50/65% all the time w/ Linux Mint.
With Windows 7, it is always @ 100%.

No matter what I do with positioning helps it w/ Mint...

No promises, but one of these might work:

If the main issue is internet, I'd be less worried about percentage readings on different operating systems and software, and use a standard testing service like

www.speedtest.net

which is what my ISP uses.
TRUST BUT VERIFY any advice from anybody, including me. Mint/Ubuntu user since 10.04 LTS. LM20 64 bit XFCE (Dell 1520). Dual booting LM20 XFCE / Win7 (Lenovo desktop and Acer netbook).

Those numbers are not comparable between Linux and Windows. Signal to noise ratio, RSSI, etc are more meaningful, but still problematic. What matters is throughput, latency, and stability of the connection. Do large file downloads across your LAN at various times of day, alternating between Windows and Linux and compare throughput. Likely the results will be similar. Latency will be erratic due to the nature of wireless. Stability will vary as well.

can't attempt any of the above since I've lost wifi connectivity w/ Mint now. Shows my network tho 68%. When I try to connect, get a "failed" message. However, wifi is still working fine with Windows. Strange 'cause until 2 days ago at least it was working with mint and I have not made any changes other than update yesterday :?

One more thing to look at is drivers. When I installed Mint 17 Cinnamon to try it on a thumb drive last week it failed to recognize wifi - simply didn't show any SSIDs to connect to - first time it's ever happened with any Mint version. After googling I went to the control center and ran the driver check widget, and sure enough it recommended a driver for the Broadcom adapter on my Dell. Installed and rebooted and it's working fine. Again, first time that's happened on my machines, but everybody has different hardware and every Linux is set up differently.

It's why I do a thorough workout over a few weeks on persistent live USB before installing anything on a hard drive. In fact another approach to your problem might be to work out the solution harmlessly with a fresh install on a live USB before fiddling any more with your "permanent" installation. Best of luck.

I'll try the driver get widget and see if that helps. If not, I can do a fresh install over again and see (since it worked the first time). I know what you mean about the live usb first. Not the first time all works fine on a live install and after full install, not all works.
