There is indeed a regression in the 3.13 kernel (used by LM17). As a workaround, reverting to 3.12 solves the problem, so maybe it will work for you too.
Thank you finding this, it has indeed resolved the problem by downgrading the kernel to 3.12. I did NOT modify anything on the Wireless AP and have now connected at 270 Mb/s with real-world throughput of about 5.5 MB/s where as I was previously only achieving 2.3 MB/s.

Old post i know but i would try mint 18.3 with the lastest kernel. In other posts with the same wifi card and it seems to fix this issue.

I am looking at these post cause I am getting ThinkPad t520 and it uses this,wifi card, or some models do.
