If it can be done in Ubuntu you should be able to do it in Mint

Everyone,

In Ubuntu there was an option (TAB)_ where we could see additionnel drivers ( Video, NIC, Mouse etc from Manufacturer),

Does a such thing existe in Mint, so I can replace the default driver for my HP Stream 11 ? For now I am using a USB Network card CISCO to solve the problem but it's using one of my only 2 USB ports

I am not at my computer but you should't have to search through too many of my posts to find one on installing backports from 3.19 rc1

Just be sure it is one with

Code: Select all

make defconfig-rtlwifi

Backports is a way to use the modules from newer kernels without installing an entire kernel

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic

Code: Select all

tar xvfJ backports-20150313.tar.xz

Code: Select all

cd backports-20150313

Code: Select all

make defconfig-rtlwifi

Code: Select all

make

Code: Select all

sudo make install

DEPMOD 3.16.0-37-generic
depmod will prefer updates/ over kernel/ -- OK!
Note:
You may or may not need to update your initramfs, you should if
any of the modules installed are part of your initramfs. To add
support for your distribution to do this automatically send a
patch against "update-initramfs.sh". If your distribution does not
require this send a patch with the '/usr/bin/lsb_release -i -s'
("Ubuntu") tag for your distribution to avoid this warning.

Your backported driver modules should be installed now.

That is normal to see the private key message unless you are a kernel developer

Undoing it is easy, change directory into the source directory and then sudo make uninstall

Code: Select all

cd backports-20150313

Code: Select all

sudo make uninstall
Reboot

Larry Finger(guy in charge of realtek modules for linux kernel) has recently updated his github site so that might be worth a try

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install git

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git

Code: Select all

cd rtlwifi_new

Code: Select all

make

Code: Select all

sudo make install
Reboot and if it doesn't work either

Code: Select all

cd rtlwifi_new

Code: Select all

sudo make uninstall
At least this one shouldn't interfere with your other adapter

I guess you could check https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new to see when the last change was made

If you ever change your kernel version you will need to

Code: Select all

cd rtlwifi_new

Code: Select all

make clean

Code: Select all

make

Code: Select all

sudo make install
Locked
