<SOLVED> Wireless soft blocked on HP Pavilion x360 13-s060sa

Post by caruby69 »

Hello all. Firstly, these forums are amazing, from what I have seen. You do an amazing job!
So, having successfully set up a first ever dual-boot with another laptop, I was tasked by my other half to do the same on a new laptop, an HP Pavilion x360 13-s060sa.
Sadly, this time around, things are more complicated and as a newbie to Linux, I am struggling but really want it to work, having reinstalled twice and found the problem only repeated. So here is the issue:

Network Manager applet turns off wireless almost instantaneously, so I am posting now via a wired connection.
I ran

Code: Select all

 rfkill list all

and got:
0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
2: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
So it appears Wireless LAN is soft blocked. After much web surfing and browsing here, I therefore ran

Code: Select all

rfkill unblock all
Sadly it changed nothing and repeating rfkill list all confirmed this.
Safeboot is turned off and in the Windows 8.1 side, permission for the computer to turn off network adapters is unchecked.
Wifi works just fine in Windows 8.1. And yes the router plays fine with Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon as I installed it on my laptop - it is perfect.

I checked the Intel site for kernel compatibility details and the kernel I have in Mint 17.2 is later than the one which introduced compatibility.
The site also provided ucode to copy to lib/firmware. I did, the problem persists.

ANY help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance :-)

Try blacklisting the kernel module acer_wmi:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... -off-or-on
(item 1.7, left column)

That will probably solve it. The clue here is "acer-wireless" in your rfkill output: that indicates that acer_wmi is loaded, which makes it the probable culprit. :)

Thank you so much for the prompt suggestion. I have two dogs pestering for a walk but as soon as I am back, I will give it a go.
I will be so thrilled if it works. It did strike me as odd that it mentioned Acer as it is actually Intel, but I thought it might be a weird labeling thing.

So ... On my return I will see what happens and return.
Thanks again!
