EDIT: For solution scroll to page 2, read post dated Apr 13, 2016 7:58 am
I just installed kernel 4.4.4 and enabled backports.
Atheros wi-fi is not available, and coincidentally MATE Sensors Applet does not show fan speeds or voltages.
Problem device:
Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 32)
Any ideas?

Thank you. Package installer says, "error: no longer provides linux-firmware"

This should get it going
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware.git
sudo cp -r ath10k-firmware/QCA9377 /lib/firmware/ath10k/
sudo cp /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/firmware-5.bin_WLAN.TF.1.0-00267-1 /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/firmware-5.bin
Reboot

Sooner or later
Code: Select all
sudo cp -r ath10k-firmware/QCA6174 /lib/firmware/ath10k/
sudo cp /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-4.bin_WLAN.RM.2.0-00180-QCARMSWPZ-1 /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw3.0/firmware-4.bin

cp: cannot create regular file ‘/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw3.0/firmware-4.bin’: No such file or directory
Also I just removed kernel 4.4.4 since it didn't work for the wifi.
I'm back to 4.2.0-30-generic from the Update manager.

OK, I now have "Enable Wi-Fi" in the Notification area, but no prompt for password. Do I have to Add a new wifi connection? If so I've now idea what to put in the dialog.

If wifi is enabled, you should be given a list of available wifi access points

Might just need to set a parameter
Code: Select all
echo "options ath10k_core skip_otp=Y" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/ath10k_core.conf
Reboot

Thanks, still not working.
May have to plug in a network adapter until LM 18.

I am not sure the board-2.bin file is needed
Code: Select all
sudo mv /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin.bak
Reboot
I had never seen the errors before in dmesg and now twice in a couple days and board-2.bin was only added to kvalo's github 16 days ago
Code: Select all
