Wireless not working - Lenovo Y700. Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa

Post by orriaxels » Sat Mar 19, 2016 9:53 pm

Just installed Linux Mint on my new Lenovo Y700 and it does not detect any wireless card, I can connect via ethernet cable but no wireless.

I have tried to google this and search this forum but everybody seems to have different wireless cards and there seem to be different solutions to the "same" problem ... Linux not detecting the wireless card.

Here is the code from the terminal that I have seen you have been asking about in the other posts about similar problems.

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; uname -r; ls /lib/firmware/ | grep 'iwlwifi-7265d

08:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 8260 [8086:24f3] (rev 3a)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1010]
09:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [10ec:8168] (rev 15)
Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:3831]
Kernel driver in use: r8169
3.19.0-32-generic

Any help is much appreciated :)

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential
wget https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/stable/v4.4.2/backports-4.4.2-1.tar.gz
tar -zxvf backports-4.4.2-1.tar.gz
cd backports-4.4.2-1
make defconfig-iwlwifi
make
sudo make install
wget http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/iwlwifi-8000C-16.ucode
sudo cp iwlwifi-8000C-16.ucode /lib/firmware/
I am sure this laptop is affected by an rfkill bug, I have a patched module to fix it

Code: Select all

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/nxu7b0lyj02bv4n/ideapad-laptop.ko
sudo mv /lib/modules/3.19.0-32-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ideapad-laptop.ko /lib/modules/3.19.0-32-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ideapad-laptop.ko.bak
sudo cp ideapad-laptop.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/
Reboot

@JeremyB: the 4.4.0-13 kernel is already available in Update Manager. Would installing it solve this problem as well?

It would work but could break something else although I do think the ideapad-laptop code is patched in 4.4 kernel
