[SOLVED] WLAN hard blocked after upgrade

Post by localhorst46 »

I upgraded my notebook's wlan (Sony Vaio SVE1511C5E) from an Atheros AR5B225 to an intel centrino advanced-n 6235. But I'm not able to use it, because rfkill says it is hard blocked. But my notebook does not have any hardware button or FN-keys to enable/disable the WLAN.

When I use lspci i get the right info about the new WLAN modul, so it should be identified correctily.

Has anybody an idea what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance!

Re: WLAN hard blocked after upgrade

Post by JeremyB »

I have no idea but run this in terminal

Code: Select all

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info
And post the contents of the wireless-info.txt file

What was wrong with that Atheros card?

I upgraded, because the Atheros card did not support 5 ghz wlan.

Here the wireless info:

Code: Select all

Re: WLAN hard blocked after upgrade

You could try going into BIOS and select reset to defaults to see if the hard block clears, if that doesn't work post

Code: Select all

lsmod

Unfortunately my BIOS is "insydeH20 rev 3.7" and the advanced settings are hidden. I can only change the boot order settings.
Anyway, I reseted settings to default in the BIOS.

Code: Select all

lsmod

Only one thing to try is

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist sony-laptop" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d.sony.conf
Reboot
