WIFI goes to sleep

Post by carondaniel1957 »

Good day to all

I'm experiencing a WIFI problem here as it goes asleep by itself and when I turn off the wifi and turn it back on it does not the job as requested.
Therefore the only solution remaining is to warm boot my PC. I use LM18.

Hope someone can help me and shed some light here.

Regards

Daniel

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

It sounds like you have the same problem that I had, where it would not connect reliably after SUSPEND.
The solution is here  viewtopic.php?f=53&t=226214&p=1194052#p1194731

It is for my wireless: wlp1s6
Yours is: wlo1
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Linux Linx 2018

Ok I created the file root-resume.service with commands that point into it. So if I reboot the problem should be gone now.

The rtl8723be may also need

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be fwlps=N" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
To disable power manager on the driver side

Reboot

Thanks for that info

After reading some comments regarding power mgt, I am trying something here in the system parameters / Power Mgt screen GUI as I disabled it from there instead of using the terminal. I keep the topics anyway as the file exist now but has been renamed differently so the system will not take it into account for now. Should I need it later on ? I'll update it and rename it as it is suppose to be. I simply removed the extension.

If you check

Code: Select all

iwconfig
and see Power Management: on then use what austin.texas posted

The fwlps parameter in any Realtek PCI(e) chipset has been known to cause issues for a couple years now and it is enabled by default

This is what I get:

Code: Select all

lo no wireless extensions.

wlo1 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"BELL850"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 40:F2:01:E8:92:D7
          Bit Rate=150 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry short limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=70/70 Signal level=-26 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:273 Missed beacon:0

eno1 no wireless extensions.
and I rebooted my machine and went back if all stayed as I wanted to and YES PW=OFF
Since I did that the connection remains...I'll see in the couple of days what happen.
Cheers

Ok I just boot up my PC and it did the same problem. I added the line

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be fwlps=N" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
to the end of etc/systemd/system/root-resume.service hoping for the best

That command was meant to be run in terminal, not added to the systemd file

Well I'll remove it from the file...it didn't seems to do any bad thing after all.

The problem seems to be when I am using the computer but not the internet. It's like if it took a sleeping pill and need to be shaken up to stay awake.
