If you have issues with FN combos not working because of ideapad-laptop being blacklisted

Code: Select all

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/nxu7b0lyj02bv4n/ideapad-laptop.ko

Code: Select all

sudo cp ideapad_laptop.ko /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ideapad-laptop.ko

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/idea.conf
Reboot

I just got a HP laptop, installed Mint Linux 18 and no wireless at all. No ethernet at all either. I keep trying to turn on the Wireless and it keeps turning off in Networking. Device manager just shows some sort of CPU thing for the i3 processor. Not a clue. I am a total Linux newbie, but I had 17.3 up and running on an old as heck Compaq machine, with wireless.

Dealing with more that one person's problem in one thread gets too confusing. You should start a new thread with a new problem. Thanks.

Yep new new HP laptop has no wireless or ethernet connections allowed. I am posting this from my windows machine since I cannot get anything to launch with Mint 18. I even tried an old wireless plug in USB adapter, and nothing. I had no problems with Mint 17.3 and it worked great. This sucks. I am attempting to avoid catching h*ll from the wife, and now this....
