Cinnamon Wifi doesn't ask password and stuck

Post by rth » Thu Sep 22, 2016 12:07 pm

Hi all,

I just move from ubuntu KDE into Linux Mint 18 Sarah Cinnamon.

Wifi connection which I set during installations at home works perfectly, but now I'm trying to connect at work and it doesn't work.

When I click connection next screen appears:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1KTdp ... c0Wk0/view

I could not change anything and just click 'play button' near my network.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1KTdp ... tRR0E/view
Then it stuck. It doesn't ask for passwords or username or anything else.

Any idea, how to fix it? If I can move this network to list of known network, I could change parameters for connections.... but I cannot.

Thanks,
R

Well, a bit strange way to do this, but it works.....

In Networking (Network settings) click "Connect a Hidden Network"
Then provide a name of your network and security. It will ask you about passwords and encryption. Set everything as it should be.

After that desired network appears in the list with configuration options. So you can configure it accurately.

I had this problem with my new router. I changed the encryption on the router settings page and it worked fine after that I do not remember what the default was and what I changed it to. I believe it was from tkip to aes. May have been the other way around also.

It was very likely that you switched from TKIP to AES as TKIP is known to cause issues in Linux and even in Windows sometimes
