Wifi doesn't show up on connections list or rfkill list

Post by Desertman194 » Wed Nov 02, 2016 12:26 pm

I'm trying to use Mint for a class and I'm unable to connect to wifi. It only shows wired connections at the bottom. I've tried running rfkill based on some other posts I've seen and it only brings up my bluetooth. I ran it awhile back and it did show the wifi before as soft blocked but not hard blocked, but I'm not sure what I put in the terminal to make the wifi disappear from that list. Help please, since I'll be using this for the rest of my time in college.

Run this in terminal

Code: Select all

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info
Post the contents of the wireless-info.txt and we will see what is going on

This is what I normally recommend

Code: Select all

wget https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/stable/v4.4.2/backports-4.4.2-1.tar.gz
tar -zxvf backports-4.4.2-1.tar.gz
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic
cd backports-4.4.2-1
make defconfig-iwlwifi
make
sudo make install
cd /lib/firmware
sudo wget http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/iwlwifi-7265D-17.ucode
Reboot

But with the dirty COW bug, it might be a better idea to use the Update Manager, click View then Linux kernels and go to the 4.4.0-45 kernel, click on it and then click install, then

Code: Select all

cd /lib/firmware
sudo wget http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/iwlwifi-7265D-17.ucode
Reboot
