Broadcom BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller

Post by Thom1 » Thu Mar 16, 2017 10:27 am

Can't seem to get my built in wireless card to work?
I have a USB Ethernet adapter installed which is allowing me to get online...
Any help would be appreciated
I'm new to Linux mint so keep it simple
Thanks

Try this. Go to the Driver manager and see if any wireless drivers are installed. If yes, then uninstall them and close the driver manager program. Then open Synaptic and search for and install firmware-b43-installer. You may then need to restart your computer. Let us know if it works.

It may be more prudent to find out which actual 4306 chip version Thom1 has (JeremyB's terminal command), before Thom1 installs any firmware.
As version 2 of the 4306 chipset requires firmware-b43legacy-installer, and version 3 of the 4306 requires the firmware-b43-installer. :)

Good to know. I did not realize that about the different versions.

With any Broadcom chipset, I would do this if it didn't work

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer firmware-b43legacy-installer
These shouldn't conflict with each other then reboot and if it still isn't working and rfkill list all shows no blocks

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist b43" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/b43-blacklist.conf

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist ssb" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/b43-blacklist.conf
Reboot again and if it doesn't work

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
Reboot
