Sierra Wireless EM7455

Post by scopa »

This is internal verizon broadband card. How can I get it working on 18.1?
Network Manager shows mobile broadband unavailable. It does show the IMEI but never completed the Add New Connection
Does anyone know how to rectify this?

I remember a similar post recently; and there was the promise that it would work "out of the box" with a newer kernel

this link https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/ ... 03178.html suggests that > 4.7 should work;

4.10 is now available in Update Manager: do you know where to find it? update manager ...... view .... down to Linux Kernels

I would suggest you install 4.10.0-20 as it is the latest; and reboot; and see if things go better; you can always go back to the earlier kernel if you so wish

Thanks PDC

I have upgraded to 4.10

I tested still no go. I then removed the udev rules file from previous link rebooted again and still getting below

Re: Sierra Wireless EM7455

I just rebuilt the box and upgraded directly to 4.10

Now I see the device under network manager. mbim-proxy has stopped CPU spike

But I still cannot configure the connection via network manager.

nmcli r
shows WWAN enabled
nmcli device status
cdc-wdm1 gsm unavailable

Any ideas?

you have the hardware and I would suggest you join the Modem Manager list; and talk directly to the experts: https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/l ... ager-devel

please let us know how it gets on; normally such groups are very welcoming and helpful;

EDIT: I remembered seeing this thread on Ask Ubuntu recently: https://askubuntu.com/questions/763238/ ... untu-16-04 is there anything in the final post from Jonathon that is useful to you?

and from the thread Jeremy quoted, https://askubuntu.com/questions/747959/ ... 731#772731

did you install libqmi-utils and added the file 99-sierra.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/

EDIT 2: BTW, which make of laptop is this in? I ask as there is much discussion on whether the laptop is Lenovo or other ....... that seems to affect what will work; and what may not;

Are you still having issues with this?

It has worked for me before out of the box on Ubuntu 16.10.
