no wireless option, wired only, please help

Post by natalia »

Hello, I've just installed Cinnamon, 32bit, version 3.2.6 on my lenovo, and I can't connect to the internet, it doesn't let me connect to my wi fi, it says "wired", when I click to change it, there is no "wireless" option, what could it be?, I have windows 8 on part of my disk, and I can connect to my wireless there, but not on Linux, please help!!!
Thanks.-

You may not have a needed driver installed for your wireless adaptor. Some are not open source. If you can connect with a wired connection temporarily, do so and run "driver manager" from the menu. That should tell you if there are proprietary drivers available for download.

Also run inxi -SMn and paste the output here, and someone may be able to tell you if there are any known problems or incompatibilities with your hardware.

a. Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

b. Do the same with the following three commands:

Code: Select all

rfkill list all
and:

Code: Select all

iwconfig
and:

Code: Select all

inxi -Nn

Hello, so I've connected the ethernet cable and I input: "sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source && sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer" this is the output:
tan01@tan01-G505 ~ $ sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source && sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer

Establish temporary ethernet connection again. Then launch Driver Manager from the menu, and install the driver it recommends to you. Then reboot again.

Does that help?
