'no wifi' [solved]

Post by quincey543 »

for a couple of weeks i have been having this problem: the wifi will stop and it will say 'no wifi connection'.
the only thing that gets it going again is switching off the computer, then the wifi is available again.
sometimes it becomes unavailable quickly and sometimes it stays connected for hours.
just switching off the wifi switch then on again does nothing, i have to switch off the computer.
i am using mint 18.1 on a usb.

what in the name of goodness and gracious is going on bloody hell.

i will say it is solved. this problem did not exist with my old hdd, it does not exist now with the new hdd i have been using for around 2 days since posting, so maybe something screwed up with updates on the usb. maybe i lost internet connection during updating and it had an effect it wouldn't have had on interruptions on a hdd, i don't know, just previous things i've seen on this forum about problems with usb's.

thanks for all replies.

I suspect hardware problem. Try a known to work with Linux USB wifi device (WinnerEco, Panda, others) and see if those work OK. Those internal PCI express cards fail often enough and often are weak on signal too.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....
