[SOLVED] Cant pickup new wifi signals

Post by PrestigePork »

I recently got my internet upgraded to nbn and now i cant pick up the wifi signals on my laptop. Also my laptop doesnt have an ethernet port so i cant run a cable to it. IS there some program or something that can pick up these signals.

Im on:
operating system: Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit
cinnamon version: 3.2.6

If you've just moved to the NBN you'll have got a modem/router from your ISP. You need to ask your ISP how you can setup wireless, or how you can check if wireless is functioning. Only after doing that can you eliminate the modem/router as the issue. Maybe a friend or neighbour has a mobile phone with wifi support and they can try to see your router over wifi...

It would have been beneficial if you'd mentioned that.

Please post the output of this command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Enclose the results in code markers, which you can select from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.

Try this. It could be that power management has the device turned off.

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
systemctl restart network-manager.service
If it doesn't work the first time, reboot and see if it connects or not. Failing that, check the device for a wifi switch and if it has one then verify that it's turned on.

<facepalm>

Unless you have two separate phone lines you can't have both ADSL and NBN, or unless you have satellite NBN or NBN HFC cable and also a copper wire phone line. Plus, if NBN has been in your area for 18 months or more, you can't have ADSL. You need to be more clear about what your setup is. It would be helpful if you can describe why you believe you should be able to access "NBN signal", and define what "NBN signal" means.
