WiFi authentication required
New installation of mint 18.2 and all good, then I changed provider to sky fibre and the problem started.
I keep getting WiFi network authorisation required pop up, I click connect but a couple of seconds later up it comes again. I've deleted the network then restarted it, it worked for a minute or so and then again kept asking for authorisation again & again. Mobiles, iPads and other laptop(windows) all connecting fine.

Re: WiFi authentication required
Also, it's an HP stream with Intel celeron processor and intel dual band wireless AC 7265
Re: WiFi authentication required
See https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13614520
It is likely the encryption used on the wifi router causing the issue or it might be on a crowded channel

Syslog shows

Re: WiFi authentication required
Go into network manager settings for the connection and add 8.8.8.8 as an additional DNS, then reboot
Re: WiFi authentication required
Still no joy but syslog has changed[/b]
Don't know if this helps

Re: WiFi authentication required
Power management enabled on wifi and that causes some issues
See if it works better
Code: Select all
sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = .*/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Code: Select all
systemctl restart network-manager.service
Re: WiFi authentication required
Intermittent.
I can live with it as it's lasting for a few minutes before it kicks me off, then I can restart the connection easily enough.
Any suggestions? Should I get a usb wifi adapter?
cheers,Alan

Re: WiFi authentication required
Can you disable TKIP encryption on the wifi router? It also seems that there are 2 access points with the same name and that might be causing some issues.
A USB adapter might work better than your Broadcom

Re: WiFi authentication required
I've disabled it between the broadcom adapter but still not holding a connection.
Better to go for the usb option I think.
Thanks for all your help, certainly got me introduced to linux and using terminal, so no bad thing.
Should I close this post? How?

Re: WiFi authentication required
I forgot about having you disable UFW as it looks like it is blocking some mDNS traffic that could cause this issue
Re: WiFi authentication required
This issue drove me nuts! I have an old Lenovo ThinkPad T520 running HomeAssistant in Docker and a bunch of other stuff. Intermittently I would get the dreaded "WiFi Authentication Required...." dialogue box when my machine disappears off the network, which led me to this post. I tried everything.
Eventually I went into the BIOS and under the Peripherals Power Management I disabled everything which allowed power management in the settings. My machine uptime is now 5d solid. Have a look at your BIOS settings as well.
PS: Linux Mint user since 2008 - first post ever!

Re: WiFi authentication required
Fail - the dialogue box appeared again. I strongly believe it is just how the code is written, there is either no attempt to reconnect to the WiFi network and the dialogue box is displayed, or after n amount of retries the dialogue box is displayed until user input is obtained.Eventually I went into the BIOS and under the Peripherals Power Management I disabled everything which allowed power management in the settings. Re: WiFi authentication required
Finally resolved the issue and implemented a suitable solution. I used https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... connection as the base on DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia".
Create a wifi_rebooter script, every time the wifi network is restarted the datetime will be written to a log file:
Change the file permissions:
Edit your contab to run the rebooter script every 1 minute, keep the other contab settings as is.
