Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac: connecting with WPA

Postby dpapathanasiou » Sat Oct 21, 2017 6:01 pm

I have a new Acer Swift 3 running the latest Linux Mint (version 18.2).

I am having trouble connecting to wifi with WPA authorization.

The network manager can see/find the access points well enough, but when I try to connect, I cannot pass authorization.

I have tried both passphrases in plaintext, as well as the psk output string of the 'wpa_passphrase' command, both to no avail.

Do I need additional firmware b/c of my wifi hardware?

Here is the output of the 'inxi -Fzx' command:

Try using WPA2-PSK only, these newer chipsets are a bit picky with encryption and might not work at all with older routers

Hi, thank you for the reply.

I did see that post, actually, but it seems the contents of my '/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174' folder are up-to-date because when I copied the version I downloaded from https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware suddenly I couldn't connect to any access point, WPA authentication or not.

Do you mean changing the access point to broadcast/accept WPA2-PSK? That device is quite old, and doesn't support that mode.

If the wireless router doesn't have the WPA2 option, that is likely the reason the QCA6174 doesn't connect to it
