PC keeps dropping wi-fi connection

hello, I recently changed my wireless wifi adaptor for PC and since then the wi-fi connection keeps dropping, the icon still shows connected but it doesn't work and I have to manually turn it off and on again.
Linux mint 18.2, power managment is off, adapter chipset rtl8192cu
