This is a "mule" box that I use to play around with. It's an older socket 775 system that is normally multiboot, ie, Windows XP Pro x32 and Linux Mint Mate 17.2 x32. This is also a "clean install" done yesterday with the Windows XP hard drive disconnected but this isn't the first time I've had this problem. Keep in mind here that this WIFI device works flawlessly with Windows XP!!

Yesterday I did a clean install using the USB WIFI adapter listed above. On the LIVE DVD that WIFI adapter works fine during testing but the install was done with it removed because I didn't want updates done during the install.

After the install, the WIFI connection worked fine and I did some things online and that connection NEVER failed to pass data on any one of the. I did what I needed to do with the WIFI connection then pulgged in the USB WIFI adapter and let Mint do 360MB of system updates. I didn't do anything with it after that finished because it was bed time so I just shut it down.

Today, when I make an internet connection to ANY of my WIFI connections it will only pass data for about 2 minutes then it stops?? And it does this on all THREE data connections I have here in my shop?? I can turn off networking then turn it back on and it still won't connect. I can turn off WIFI and then turn it back on and it still won't connect?? The only way to get the connection back is to RESTART the computer??

So, having said all that, can someone tell me how to stop Mint 17.2 from turning off my WIFI connections after only 2 minutes??

And an FYI, as I said up the page, this isn't the first time I've had this problem as Ubuntu Mate 16.04 does this as does anything 16.04 that I've tried.

Thanks
