I have recently been persuaded to have fibre broadband installed at my house. It broadcasts on two channels, the faster of the two is a 5G channel. I have a Lenovo G70-70, with Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia installed and running perfectly. Alas the original wifi card isn't able to see 5G networks, but does connect to the slower of the two wifi channels. So I bought another card (should have researched before purchasing). I am tempted to bin it for the sake of a few pounds and buy something I know will work but wondered if anyone can tell me how to get a Broadcom BCM43162 card working in Linux Mint.
There is a fair amount of information on this subject but it all seemed to finish a couple of years ago with the consensus that the card is not supported in current kernels. And it works without any issues on Windows machines.
I am trying to improve my problems solving skills in Linux, but this one has me baffled.
Do I follow my original plan and bin the Broadcom card, or is there a way to get it working?
Thank you in advance.

Post results from terminal for
Lenovo's can be a pain because they utilize a whitelist in UEFI/BIOS that will prevent them from booting with an unsupported PCI(e) wifi card installed
Code: Select all
lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net

JeremyB - I have no issues booting the computer with the card installed. Here is the result of the terminal command:

Re: Broadcom BCM43162
That one is still unsupported, I would contact Lenovo about a replacement wifi card from Intel unless you would rather buy a USB wifi
