<SOLVED> Hotel network went down, its back but Mint 18.1 can't connect

Post by J_Couch » Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:45 pm

hello -- I'm at a hotel with free non-password protected wi-fi. The network went down last night, and now it's back up but I can't get my laptop running Mint 18.1 to connect. The network works fine on my other devices now.

I put the following into terminal, but it didn't solve the problem:
service network-manager stop
rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
service network-manager start

pinging any site returns 'unknown host'.

I'm a newbie and that's about as far as I can go without help! Any suggestions welcome.

SOLVED! this post led to the solution, which had to do with the hotel logon page not appearing: https://askubuntu.com/questions/228351/ ... 155#872155
