Before, I used ubuntu and I already had problems with my ASUS X54C Series notebook. The connection in my house was slow and intermittent and in my girlfriend's house I had more several connection problems: wifi connected but internet didn't work: DNS problems.
I followed instructions like writing Power Management: off and it was not solved. I also introduced IPV4 manual but it was not a solution either. In my house wifi continued intermittent and slow and in my girldfriend's house it did not work.
Yesterday, I have installed linux mint xfce. My laptop is going very fast and I am happy with Mint, but I still have problems with wifi although. I have not tried connect from my girlfriend's house, but as I said wifi continue intermittently and sometimes it does not work in my house.
I'm desperate, I've been like that for a long time.
PD: The modifications were before with when i had Ubuntu, but now Mint it's newly installed, everything by default. Sometimes the connection fails, other times slow and other times fast
