It worked for a while but now the internet is not working whereas the network manager says I am connected to the wifi.

See if putting the wifi router on channel 3 rather than auto helps, it might be changing channels

The network works for sometime before going down.. it starts working again after a while and so on.

I ran the above command after unplugging my ethernet while still connected to my WiFi. After removing the ethernet cable, the net stopped working.
Encryption - WPA/WPA2
Network manager said I was connected to wifi but internet did not work.

After this, I tried setting the encryption to WPA2 only as referenced in a post on this thread. And now Network manager again refuses to connect to Wifi.
I ran the command again.

Worked for a couple of minutes before reverting to the previous state of showing connected but not working.

I disabled Firewall but that did not help too.
