WiFi stops working after close laptop lid

Post by rte638 »

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series running Mint 18.3 64bit, kernel 4.04.0-112 that recently developed a wifi connection problem.
When the pc is booted the wireless network connects automatically. When the laptop lid is closed and then reopened the wifi connection will not reconnect.
The Power Management settings for when lid is closed both ac power and battery are set to suspend. After the lid is opened, the Network setting for WiFi on/off can not be reset to on.

Any resolution suggestions are appreciated.

On my 4 LM laptops, in Power Options, I choose "Do nothing" under "what to do when the lid is closed".
You may also want to disable power management for the WiFi adapter in your system.
Good luck.

I have the same problem and it say power management is off. Any help?

Have you installed the tlp package ?
I have similar issues using a Realtek card, which seems to be really slow after sleep, despite trying to turn off all wifi-related features in tlp.

I would try the following command to prevent Network Manager from trying to enable wifi power management

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf && systemctl restart network-manager.service
