WiFi Connected but no Internet

Hi Guys!

After a long holiday from Linux, I've decided to install Mint 18.3 on a spare desktop I had laying around.

Installation went fine, established connection to my wireless router, however I have no internet connectivity. After trawling through some similar questions on the forum, I haven't been able to find a situation that matches mine so I decided to post this topic to ask for assistance!

Key Points:

• WiFi is showing as connected (so wireless adaptor drivers must be working?)
• Unable to ping my router or Google.
• Only response is "connect: Network is unreachable".
• PC shows as connected to my router, however does not have an IP address assigned (Router states "This device either does not support or is not configured for IPv4 addressing."
• IPv4 is enabled on Mint.
• Disabled firewall to ensure nothing is blocking outgoing traffic.

If any other information is required please let me know, very keen to get up and running!

One thing I have noticed from that information is that the Network card is showing as NVIDIA MCP61, however, this is not what I am using as my network adapter. I am using a TP-Link dongle which when unplugged the PC loses WiFi connectivity.

First try this:

1. Install the latest kernel of the 4.13 series (should be a level 4 update). After installing it, reboot.

2. Then disable power management for your wifi:

3. Reboot again.

Unfortunately still does not appear to be working - even attempting to ping my router I still just receive the Network is Unreachable response.

Does your router use MAC filtering to allow connections from only listed devices? If so, is the TP-Link dongle listed?

Use the WPS button if your router has one.

Success! I'm now posting from my Mint device.

Thanks to all for your assistance, strangely the issue seemed to rectify itself when I change the Addresses setting from DHCP to Link-Local Only and then back again, under the IPv4 settings.

In any case, all is working now but thanks again!
