Wireless Printing

Post by Caltrop »

The Library changed its' color printer.

Brother HL-L8350CDW
downloaded driver & installed
says already installed
removed old driver
reinstalled & at the end of the process says it is already installed
I checked the package manager and it is installed - hll8350cdw
why gdebi-gtk says it is already installed... :?:

system-config-printer
printer does not show in list

I am at a loss... :(

This is going to end up in a terminal doing who knows what... :o

Turns out we needed the CUPS driver too...

Got it installed, shows up in system-config-printer but...
Tried printing a test page but the data sent to the printer is invalid. :?

Looking like a driver issue - Brother's problem.
Or something with the network driver - Library System Administrator problem.

Right now no one knows what is going on... :?

Typical day in the wurld of computing. :o

Did you download the driver from Brother website here:

http://support.brother.com/g/b/download ... _as&os=128

I recently bought a Brother MFC-J5830DW and found that their support of Linux is the best.

so Caltrop; sorry to hear of your troubles;

you mention that the Library had changed its color printer to this Brother ;
The Library changed its color printer.

please can you help us understand how things are set up:

do open a terminal: hold down the control and alt and t buttons all at once .... then type

Code: Select all

lpinfo -v
.. hit the ENTER key ...... that is asking the info part of lp (linux printing) on your system to give info and the v means verbose so means "tell it all" and then copy what you get; paste it back here: if you select the text and use control and shift and c in the terminal; (instead of just control and c as in most other programs)

heck, if you are on a roll ...... also do

Code: Select all

lpstat -v
and give that to use as well .......
