Presently I am running Mint 18.3 with kernel 4.13.0-14. The wireless card was initially detected as a Broadcom BCM43142 and the bcmwl-kernel-source is selected and not having any problems. I have tried to update to a 4.15 kernel but after rebooting I am unable to run on the wireless card.
I know that I could stay with a 4.13 kernel but plan to upgrade to Mint 19 in the future which is using the 4.15 kernel.

Re: BCM43142 and kernel 4.15 series
I tried your suggestion but the 4.15 kernel does not see the wireless card. Also do not know if this is any help:

Nope. It's not for me, it's for others who might have the same problem.jvslice wrote: ⤴Wed Jul 04, 2018 9:51 pm Oops, sorry my typing is not so good.
