I purchased an HP laptop and installed Mint Cinnamon 18.3 to see if I could eventually cut the cord with Windows.
The wireless coverage is pathetic. Even when my laptop is 2m from the router, it shows a 50% coverage. If I take it out of the room, there is no coverage. All of my other devices have no problem except this laptop with Mint installed.
If I'm doing something wrong, I'd love to know what it is. The WiFi on this laptop is practically useless.
Wireless range is crap.

Bad range on an HP laptop? About 2 years ago or so they decided to start using just one antenna wire on some of their wifi cards. In terminal paste
Reboot
Code: Select all
echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723ce-ant.conf
