No wireless connection on HP Pavilion Linux Mint

Post by jacklevics » Sun Aug 05, 2018 7:15 am

Hi.
I've installed Mint on my laptop and I am completely unable to get the wifi to work. I am plugged in by ethernet now.

I ran iwconfig and it shows this.

Code: Select all

eno1 no wireless extensions.

lo no wireless extensions.
And also,

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
08:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4365] (rev 01)
	Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [103c:2230]
09:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [10ec:8136] (rev 08)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [103c:227f]
	Kernel driver in use: r8169
	Kernel modules: r8169
Could anybody offer any help on this?
I see it's not just me that's had problems with the Broadcom controller.

Thank you.

Code: Select all

wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/restricted/b/bcmwl/bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
Then check Secure Boot status

Code: Select all

sudo apt install mokutil && mokutil --sb-state
If it says Secure Boot disabled or EFI variables unsupported on this system, reboot. If it says Secure Boot enabled, reboot and go into UEFI/BIOS settings and disable Secure Boot

Thanks for that help, Jeremy. It did indeed say I had secureboot enabled, and so I went into the BIOS and disabled it.

Unfortunately, I still can't get WIFI. It is not searching for them.
Is there perhaps something else I can do?

Thanks,
Jack

Thanks, JeremyB. I did this and it exported a wireless info file to desktop.
The URL shows: http://termbin.com/flgl

Thank you.
