wifi connection degrading with time

Post by veroastro » Sat Aug 11, 2018 6:09 pm

hi.
I installed linux mint19 cinnamon 5 days ago- there were no problems with wifi for a couple of day, except it would disconnect during the night. then yesterday started with asking me for the authentication password quite a few times then that stopped today. then the wifi would disconnect and would be slow when it connected. if i turned wifi off and then on, then it connected instantly.... now it says it is connected but there is no internet. i connected through my phone with teethering and the connection is kinda slow but not like before. I have anusb bluetooth as well that i connected today. Thank you

I would follow some steps on https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13614520 to start with. Some wifi devices don't like power management being enabled, or TKIP/WEP encryption

iwconfig
Tx excessive retries:759 Invalid misc:86 Missed beacon:0
it's ok to have numerous Invalid misc: (even in the 10,000+ this is ok) but more than 2 or 4 Tx excessive retries: means yes you have a bad handshake between kernel+network manager+wifi+router
do you get anything close to the speed you're paying for? test here https://www.google.com/search?q=isp+speed+test click the blue RUN SPEED TEST button

one simple way to test if it's kernel, boot with an older mint or other distro test the speed a couple of times and then run iwconfig to see your Tx excessive retries: and Invalid misc:
