Hi all,
I am new here.
I installed Mint 18 on an old Sony Vaio VGN-FE770G. The OS is working great on the laptop but I cannot seem to use the internal wifi card. I bought a TP-Link TL-WN725N and plugged it in.
I followed instructions on this forum from several posts but I can't seem to get anywhere.
The Ethernet is working great, when I turn on WIFI it says it is working yet no wireless networks are detected.
I would appreciate help to resolve this issue.

Re: Mint18 Sony Vaio
Does the Vaio have a slider switch on the front edge? If not you may have to remove the internal card to see if it will allow the USB to function

Re: Mint18 Sony Vaio
What version is the wifi chipset inside the TLWN725N? It should be listed on the label on the adapter. V1, V2, or V3?
TP-Link TLWN275N 150MBs WiFi Nano USB Adapter
V1: Realtek RTL8188CUS
V2: Realtek RTL8188EUS
V3: Realtek RTL8188EUS
Post the output for: (with the TLWN725N plugged in)

The slider switch was off.
Re: Mint18 Sony Vaio
My Vaio has a wifi on/off switch on the front left edge which I bump now and then.
Glad it's working.

Re: Mint18 Sony Vaio
Now I am getting "activating failed error, active connection removed before it was initialized"
Re: Mint18 Sony Vaio
Everytime I restart I have to sudo service NetworkManager start and I am still getting the same error from the wifi "activating failed error, active connection removed before it was initialized"
