DNScrypt-proxy 2.0.x under LM18.x? How?

Post by arvY99 »

Hi,

For some months I was using dnscrypt-proxy 1.6 with the DNS set as 127.0.0.2 according to http://www.webupd8.org/2014/08/encrypt- ... -with.html, it suddenly stopped to work (no more dns, no more connection to sites). The selected resolver in Netherlands was maybe unreachable?!?!
I removed the 'old' version with 'apt-get purge' then tried to install the new version 2.0.16 from the proposed ppa:shevchuk/dnscrypt-proxy.
The first step is to stop all that is listening to port 53 with ss -lp 'sport = :domain' (https://github.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-pr ... tion-linux).
When entering this request I get two hits:
Netid State Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port
udp UNCONN 0 0 127.0.1.1:domain *:*
tcp LISTEN 0 5 127.0.1.1:domain *:*
How am I supposed to stop them?

There is a tutorial to install dnscrypt-proxy under LM19, but the search function did not reveal any straight info for LM18.x, or I missed them.

Anyone successfully installed and using the new 2.0.x dnscrypt-proxy under LM18.x? I always get a list with my isp dns-servers when trying https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ after installing this protocol?!?!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: in case: LM18.3 mate edition ;)

Hi,

Tried again according to the info in https://github.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-pr ... ian-Ubuntu.
No success, either no connection or through the isp-dns-servers. Wondering if I should not delete the files involved in the configuration (resolv.conf, dnscrypt-proxy.service, etc...) in order to get new ones while installing dnscrypt-proxy?!

Edit: the search function did not find dnscrypt-proxy... now wondering if the apt get/apt install really downloaded/installed the file?!

for people that want privacy but don't want to setup dnscrypt https://dns.watch/ comes with No Logging, DNSSEC enabled
the service is slow and at times there are outages depending on the part of the world you live in. i'm ok with it

Hi trytip,
dns.watch could be an alternative.
As for dnscrypt-proxy. I was using the previous version, it was fine. I got my system messed up (had to edit, move, delete some files) when trying to install/use the last version under LM18.3, and finally reinstalled the whole system. Was simply asking if the last link for LM19 has been tried on LM18.3 since the topic is about LM18.3. If it works, fine, very fine! If it does not work under LM18.3 I would prefer to know before, not to have to mess up and reinstall LM again ;)

Hi arvY99,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

Your first comments showed that you entered the wrong DNS entry and should be "127.0.2.1 " for DNSCrypt Proxy 2 from what I read.

You might consider using "DNS over TLS" instead of DNScrypt-proxy like I do.
