Wireless card not detected - first installation of Mint 19 (SOLVED)

Post by YuvalH »

Hi,

I'm hoping for some help as am completely clueless as to how to get going. I've installed mint and partitioned in accordance with online tutorials. All worked like a charm, except that there's no wifi, no suggested drivers, and no card detected (from what I gather). I've run diagnostics I found on other similar threads and have the info below.

Can anyone please advise or send me to the correct thread (I can't be the first one...)

Thank you in advance.

Re: Wireless card not detected - first installation of Mint 19

Post by JeremyB »

I would do

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp -r rtlwifi_new/firmware/rtlwifi/ /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf
Reboot, check in BIOS/UEFI settings to make sure Secure Boot is disabled and boot into Linux Mint

I obviously have no idea what you had me do, but needless to say it worked!

Thank you so much JeremyB

I have seen your posts on this topic before and have seen the results, I'm actually a bit star struck...

Your work here is truly amazing.

Thanks so much!

(If you want to try to explain what happened that would be great, I have a lot to learn...)

You've just installed build tools, downloaded a construction kit for a new Wifi driver, used the build tools to build that new Wifi driver, installed that driver, and finally you've instructed that new driver to use another antenna than the default one. :)
