Cannot get Linksys WUSB6100M "AC" to work.

Post by Compumind » Thu Oct 04, 2018 11:35 am

Hi there!

Nice forum, really glad to be here!

I'm running LM 19 (Tara) x64 and I have a Linksys WUSB6100M USB Wireless-AC adapter that is not recognized upon hot plug or cold boot.
Looked around the net and only found incidental posts on this adapter.

Code: Select all

https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WUSB6100M/
Does anyone have any information on how to get this to work and work properly?
I'm a LM newbie but extremely skilled in the Microsoft environment.

Linux Mint is cool. Reminds of my UNIX days with Solaris, lol.

Many thanks!

One other important detail -

This is an older desktop system using USB 2.0 ports.

I have been using a Belkin N300 Micro Wireless USB adapter, instantly recognized, with only 40 down and 10 up.
Hardly Wireless-N speeds.

Code: Select all

https://www.belkin.com/us/support-product?pid=01t80000002w68FAAQ
Hope this helps diagnose the adapter in my first post.

Cheers!

Hello,

I just did a quick search and found this:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/799104/ ... er-to-work

Do not know if this will help or not. Sometimes I check out the ubuntu forum for answers.

Hope you get this resolved.

Sincerely,

Marcia

Hi Marcia -

I had seen that as well.
That's very deep stuff for me without a guaranteed resolution.

I appreciate your help. Let's see if others have a "turnkey" type of solution.
I know that Linksys does not have a Linux driver but wonder if some genius has figured this out.

Thanks! :o

It seems that it is one of the newer Atheros chipsets and might not be supported yet in the newest linux kernel, please provide results for lsusb

Obviously, not recognized in the Kernel, so how do I interrogate the WUSB6100M to get you more information?

You could email the developers at ath10k@lists.infradead.org

It seems that might be a waste of time right now, http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/at ... 12071.html

Hi.

This could take forever, lol.

Is there a list of certified Wireless-AC (similar to the Linksys WUSB6100M) USB adapters that will work on LM?
Preferably inexpensive.

Thanks. :)

@JeremyB -

Edimax has a nice website.

What other models of USB "AC" does Edimax support for LM?
Yours is really nice but I would like something less expensive.

Many thanks!

Hi,

This may not be what you are really looking for however, I have this one and it works well: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6833389035

I did not use it with linuxmint yet, but it is working very well with my linuxlite machine. I have had it at least a couple of years. The only annoyance is if I upgrade my kernel then I have to either do usb tethering on my phone or use an old wifi adapter to go into synaptic and reinstall rtl8812au device driver which is included in linuxmint as well. You need the kernel headers installed for this. It gets installed with no fuss this way. I do the install without it plugged in then after the install plug it in after it boots up. Occasionally I have to unplug it another time and plug it back in for it to be found. It has always worked well after that with no issues for me.

Otherwise I found this which I know nothing about personally: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6833315123

I wish you well for finding the right one for the right price.

Sincerely,

Marcia

@marcia -

Thank you very much for your response. Seems that I need a list of tested Wireless-AC adapters that will work with LM, without a problem.
As much as I like Linux, this has always been a sticking point with device support and I see that there is some ways to go.

My initial post is case in point. I have this USB Linksys adapter that is not supported in the Kernel.

Could you or anyone else kindly advise as to tested USB Wireless AC, with some product links so my LM system can run rather than crawl?

Many thanks!

Compumind :)

Are you using the rtl8812au-dkms package with your wifi?
