[SOLVED] - Wireless Scanning - HP 4520

Post by wallyUSA »

I need help with scanning. Using LM 19 Cinnamon. Have HP 4520 AIO (all in one) wirelessly on the net. Printing works, no problem. However, when I try to scan, the program can not find the scanner. I have tried both ‘simple scan’ & ‘xsane’. I think I need a driver for LM but do not know how to find/install same?

FYI - I have WIN10 in a VM and w/l scanning from that works just fine. However, I would prefer to learn how to make it work in LM and not have to use the M$ method.

Some system info below. Please let me know if you need anything else.

TIA!

UPDATE: OK, I went to hp.com and downloaded two files:

/home/wally/Downloads/hplip-3.18.9.run
/home/wally/Downloads/hplip-3.18.9.run.asc

Advice needed: Is this what I need and how to use these files (I am a guy guy)?

According to the HP HPLIP Supported Printers page, your printer has been supported since at least 2.8.5. What this means is the version of hplip found in the LM repository will (should?) support your device just fine.

Suggest you run each of the following commands, in turn:

Code: Select all

$sudo apt install hplip hplip-gui xsane
$ hp-setup
$ hp-plugin
These will (1) install the software, then (2) configure the software for your printer, then (3) configure the software for your scanner
