Can anyone tell me if Linux Mint 18.3 mate is supposed to be compatible / work with
and automatically detect a Panda model 9A06 USB wireless network adapter.
Panda is telling me that it should work without having to install any drivers, etc.
but so far have not been able to get Linux Mint to recognize it.
Have called Panda but so far no call back from them.
Thanks.
Sorry, make the Linux Mint version 19, if that makes any difference.

problem I will do so but in the meantime let me mention that her computer is
OLD, OLD Compaq. Is there a possibility that if her machine's USB level is
not version 2 or higher, that the old USB version 1 may be the "root" cause
of the connectivity problem ? We are seeing both the NIC adapter and her
ZTE hotspot BUT at the password prompt, the connect button is grayed out/not
active.
I am thinking it is either 1) the USB level, 2) there is some incompatibility with
the NIC adapter and her ZTE hotspot or 3) there may be a corruption in her
Linux Mint 19 installation due to a bad ISO download.
Thanks.

Is the computer more than 10 years old? The Linux Kernal is dropping support for old PCs.
Re: Getting Panda USB wireless network adapter to work with Linux Mint 18.3
Since the below mentions 2002, my "guess" would be YES.
Compaq Computer Corporation, former American computer manufacturer that started as the first maker of IBM-compatible portable computers and quickly grew into the world's best-selling personal computer brand during the late 1980s and '90s. Compaq was acquired by the Hewlett-Packard Company in 2002.
Thanks.

LMDE uses the 4.9 kernel I believe. Should work better on older hardware.

Panda generally works well with Linux. My Panda PAU09 was perfectly plug and play.
Running the inxi command shown below shows a Ralink chip in this Panda and the rt2800usb driver. You try that same command line entry to see what comes back. Post the results in a CODE box (</> button) in your reply.

Also, check the model number - it might be a PAU06 rather than 9A06.
