[SOLVED] WiFi Internet Vanishes

I recently switched to a USB WiFi adapter, successfully building the kernel modules. Everything worked great for the last few days, but now my internet connection simply vanishes at least a couple of times a day. The NIC is still connected, I can still see my local network devices, but the internet is gone. I checked the logs and no errors are being recorded. A restart of NetworkManager always clears the problem, so I'm wondering if it's the culprit. Should I switch to ifup/ifdown to control the NIC?

I disabled power management in NetworkManager (even though iwconfig showed that it was off):
