Problems Connecting to Public WiFi (SOLVED)

Post by lollyjay »

Hello, noob question here. When I am in a wifi environment where in order to connect to internet on the public wifi, in Win10 or on my Android phone the web browser is opened on the "Tap to Continue" page for internet access. On Linux Mint, I do not get the automatic opening of the web page on my browser. So, even though I am connected to the wifi, I have no internet. Am I missing something in the settings for the public wifi that must be changed?

Well, if anyone else is interested, I was able to get to the login page by doing the following:
1 Connect to the wifi as usual
2 Open Terminal, and type route
3 You will get something like:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
default _gateway 0.0.0.0 UG 600 0 0 wlp3s0
10.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 600 0 0 wlp3s0
link-local 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 0 0 wlp3s0
In the above case, the link-local is 255.255.0.0
4 Open a browser and type the above linkl-local
5 You should be redirected to the login page
