Hi,

Having a bit of perplexion here. I reinstalled Mint 19.1 Cinnamon and now, no matter what, I cannot get the powersave to turn off.

I have edited the /etc/Network-Manager/conf.d/default/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf to read as follows:

Code: Select all

[connection]
# Values are 0 (use default), 1 (ignore/don't touch), 2 (disable) or 3 (enable).
wifi.powersave =2
which, by all accounts should turn off the power management feature of the wireless interface.

But, after restarting Network manager via command line or rebooting, iwconfig shows this

Code: Select all

wlp2s0    IEEE 802.11  ESSID:"ghome_2GEXT"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.422 GHz  Access Point: B0:39:56:A3:FF:04
          Bit Rate=72.2 Mb/s   Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr=2347 B   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:on
It's not a burning issue, since my wifi is working satisfactorily, but I'm confused as to why the Power Management shows 'on' even though the proper configuration file for it has the 'off' switch engaged.

Any ideas? Have I made a stupid mistake? (probable)

you forgot a space before the 2 if that matters

Code: Select all

[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
also the path is wrong there is NO "default" folder

Code: Select all

/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf

That was a type on my part. I meant to type /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Thanks for looking, anywho.

of course, I can't find the edit tool when I need it. In the original message, it looks like I mistyped the path. That was just a finger fumble. I had a stroke a few years ago that destroyed some of the pathways from my brain to my fingers. Not asking for sympathy, just trying to explain what happened.

rightclick on a folder in your file manager and open as root/admin navigate to filesystem > etc > NetworkManager > conf.d and open the default-wifi-powersave-on.conf with a text editor
