First time Linux user, trouble with wifi

Post by basshuntr130 »

My wife's step dad booted my laptop in Linux Mint and I have only ever used Windows. My laptop won't connect to wifi, when I pull the tab up at the bottom of the screen it says the "unavailable" under the wireless switch. the light on the wireless key is orange and won't change with or without the fn key. I bought a USB wifi adapter and installed the driver and that one is unavailable as well. Does anybody know how to help?

Ok first thing is there is a hard block on your wifi. try this first in the terminal

Code: Select all

rfkill unblock all
and turn wifi on with the correct switch or the correct key inputs.

Code: Select all

0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
1: phy1: Wireless LAN

	Hard blocked: no
I did the code and it still won't turn on, I did the list command again and this is what it says.

run the inxi command again what does it say now?
I'm assuming that Ralink RT3290 is the usb wifi stick.

The Realtek is the USB wifi adapter.
