(Solved) Linux Mint 19.1 HP15 laptop-no wireless networks

Post by neil_r_mac » Mon May 27, 2019 1:50 pm

Hi guys
Complete newbie blown away by Linux but going through the expected teething problems. I appreciate that there are very similar issues posted here and if I was confident in following the solutions I would. Could I ask for your help please? I have no wifi networks and I've run the following commands, if you could help? I'd really appreciate it.

Is there an airplane key on your keyboard that might turn it on?

In terminal check mokutil --sb-state as Secure Boot needs to be disabled in BIOS, don't delete the Secure Boot keys

Then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp -r rtlwifi_new/firmware/rtlwifi/ /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/
echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf
Reboot

Sleeper12- Thanks for your reply. I do have an airplane key but when I press it there's nothing obvious happening :)

JeremyB- Again thanks so much for your support. I carried out your instructions. When I re-booted, there didn't appear to be any change in my network settings or network connections. I've run the commands again and it showed everything was already installed. Unfortunately, I tried running it again there to show you and I forgot to use the select all and have done something completely different. Help. Can you help me undo this mistake? Sorry, I'm a dork! :)

Code: Select all

Thanks JeremyB. This is what I ran and where it seems to be sitting at the moment. Do I hit return or reboot at this point? Sorry! :?

I think I may have a similar problem. I can access the wifi upon the initial build. But then when I update there are no wifi networks to connect to. I backed up the the initial build via system restore utility to regain internet access. Next I tried to execute your commands. when I get to "git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git" I am asked for a user name and password. No idea what to put in there. Has the clone site changed recently?

I have a HP Pavilion-dv6700 laptop with a Realtek RTL810xE OCU Express Fast Ethernet Controller

Github asking for a username and password on a git clone command indicates a typo as there has been no changes to the site
