[SOLVED] Mint 19.1 No Wireless Lenovo Legion Y535

Post by 2hams » Thu Jun 20, 2019 4:32 pm

On a dual boot Windows/Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon the wireless is down on Linux. It works on Windows. Steps taken:

- secure Boot disabled
- Windows fast startup disabled
- plugged in Ethernet cable
- downloaded Mint, verified, burned USB stick, installed Mint with cleanly reformatted partitions, boot
- launch Driver Manager - No proprietary drivers in use
- Update Manager - apply all updates, including Kernel 4.14.0.52.54; gconf dependency problems; reboot, update again

Should I first fix wireless (how?) or the missing (NVIDIA GeFORCE GTX 1660 Ti driver for AMD64/EM64T Ver 430.9) ?

The wifi base address matches the address from Windows - see syslog snippets

Not yet solved. More info.

Driver Manager does not list any WIFI device driver.

Code: Select all

kay@grumpy:~$ rfkill list all

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but this one has caught me a couple of times: have you used Fn+F7 to enable/disable airplane mode?

I did just check, and don't think that is it. I do have wifi when I boot Windows. I think it is most likely related to the configuration wifi.powersave = 3 setting.

Not surprising since this is a fairly new machine. (The GeForce GTX driver does seem to be working fine, thank goodness.)

The advice to me was to set wifi.powersave = 2

In terminal do

Code: Select all

sudo apt install build-essential git dkms
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/ideapad-laptop.git
sudo dkms add ./ideapad-laptop
sudo dkms install ideapad-laptop/1.0
Reboot

Thank you. That worked. (FYI the nvdia-driver-430 from graphics-drivers/ppa worked with the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.)
